Empowering Futures: 30 Women Advance in Skills Training

February 18, 2026

Empowering Futures: 30 Women Advance in Skills Training under the Stronger Together Project

HURDO Somalia is pleased to share the encouraging progress of 30 women and adolescent girls who have successfully completed Week Four of intensive skills development training in Henna Art, Tailoring, and Tie & Dye production under the #StrongerTogetherProject.

This Livelihoods Training Program is designed to provide practical, market-driven vocational skills that directly respond to local economic opportunities. Through structured, hands-on learning sessions, participants are gaining technical proficiency in:

  • Henna Art – professional design techniques, client service skills, and cultural artistry

  • Tailoring – garment construction, pattern cutting, measurement accuracy, and finishing standards

  • Tie & Dye – fabric treatment methods, color blending, quality control, and product presentation

Building Skills for Sustainable Income

The program goes beyond basic training. It is carefully structured to ensure that participants can immediately translate their skills into income-generating activities. By focusing on quality standards, productivity, and market relevance, trainees are being prepared to:

  • Launch home-based micro-enterprises

  • Join or establish women-led cooperatives

  • Supply local markets and community customers

  • Diversify household income sources

This approach strengthens participants’ economic agency, allowing them to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Integrating Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy

Recognizing that technical skills alone are not sufficient for long-term success, the project integrates essential components of:

  • Basic business management

  • Entrepreneurship development

  • Financial literacy and savings practices

  • Pricing, budgeting, and simple bookkeeping

  • Customer relations and marketing fundamentals

By combining vocational skills with business awareness, the initiative ensures that participants are not only trained artisans but also equipped to establish, manage, and grow small-scale enterprises sustainably.

Supporting Vulnerable Women and Girls

The majority of beneficiaries are internally displaced women and girls from vulnerable communities, many of whom face limited access to employment and economic opportunities. Through this comprehensive training, the program aims to:

  • Restore dignity and self-confidence

  • Reduce economic dependency

  • Enhance household resilience

  • Promote social inclusion

  • Contribute to community-level economic recovery

By investing in women’s economic empowerment, the project supports broader objectives of poverty reduction, gender equality, and sustainable development in Somalia.

A Commitment to Dignity and Self-Reliance

HURDO Somalia remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing women’s empowerment, livelihood resilience, and inclusive economic growth across Somalia. We firmly believe that when women are equipped with skills, knowledge, and opportunity, entire families and communities thrive.

This initiative reflects our dedication to building pathways toward long-term self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring that vulnerable women and girls are not left behind.

Acknowledgment of Support

🙏 We extend our sincere appreciation to action medeor e.V. and the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) for their generous support and partnership in making this impactful initiative possible.

Together, we are strengthening resilience, expanding opportunity, and empowering futures.
