Sustainable Shelter Solutions for Vulnerable Somali Communnities
At HURDO, providing sustainable and dignified shelter to vulnerable communities affected by crises in Somalia is a top priority. Through community-based programs, we work on the implementation of shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI) solutions for displaced populations. Our focus is to offer shelters that ensure security, privacy, and protection, while contributing to the integration of vulnerable communities and promoting durable solutions, even for those facing prolonged displacement.
Our Key Initiatives:
Emergency Shelter Kits Distribution :
- HURDO provides emergency shelter kits to families affected by conflict, drought, floods, and other multi-crisis situations. With a community-driven approach, we respond rapidly to emergency needs through a combination of cash and in-kind support, tailored to the community’s unique circumstances and market accessibility.
Transitional and Hybrid Shelters :
- Leveraging the expertise of field specialists, HURDO facilitates the provision of transitional and hybrid shelters for displaced communities in IDP camps. These shelters are designed in close collaboration with the communities, using a market-based approach and community consultations to ensure the shelters meet their needs and preferences.
Sustainable Permanent Shelters :
- HURDO is committed to the construction of long-term, sustainable shelters, including one-room and two-room permanent structures. These shelters come with title deeds to promote security of tenure. We work closely with local communities and governments to establish durable solution sites, ensuring long-term stability and resilience for displaced families.
