HURDO Somalia is proud to announce the successful completion of a Women’s Rights & Protection Training conducted under the Stronger Together Project, bringing together 25 women leaders, community representatives, and change-makers committed to advancing the rights, protection, and well-being of women and girls in their communities.
The training was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of women’s rights, protection principles, gender equality, and available support systems while equipping them with practical tools to address challenges affecting women and girls. Through a participatory and interactive learning approach, participants engaged in discussions, group work, case studies, role-playing exercises, and experience-sharing sessions that encouraged learning, reflection, and collective action.
Throughout the training, participants explored a wide range of topics, including:
🔹 Women’s rights and national and international legal frameworks
🔹 Gender equality and women’s empowerment
🔹 Prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and harmful practices
🔹 Protection principles and safeguarding measures
🔹 Referral pathways and access to support services
🔹 Psychosocial support and emotional well-being
🔹 Community advocacy and awareness raising
🔹 Leadership skills and participation in decision-making processes
🔹 Building safe and inclusive communities for women and girls
The training also provided an important platform for women to discuss challenges affecting their communities, including discrimination, gender inequality, violence, limited access to opportunities, and barriers to participation in leadership and decision-making. Participants collectively identified practical solutions and developed action points to help strengthen protection systems and promote gender-responsive community initiatives.
A key focus of the training was empowering women to become active advocates and leaders within their communities. Participants were encouraged to recognize their potential as agents of change and to use their knowledge and skills to promote respect for human rights, challenge harmful social norms, support survivors of violence, and contribute to peaceful and inclusive community development.
The sessions emphasized the importance of community solidarity and collective responsibility in addressing protection concerns. Participants learned about available referral mechanisms and support services, enabling them to better assist vulnerable individuals and connect survivors with appropriate care and protection services when needed.

HURDO Somalia remains committed to promoting the rights, protection, and empowerment of women and girls through community-based initiatives, capacity-building programs, and advocacy efforts that contribute to sustainable social change and inclusive development.
As the training concluded, participants expressed renewed determination to share their knowledge, raise awareness, support vulnerable women and girls, and champion gender equality within their families, communities, and institutions.
A Lasting Impact
What began as a training became a journey of empowerment, learning, and transformation. The women who participated did not simply gain information—they strengthened their voices, expanded their leadership potential, and embraced their role as advocates for change.
They came as participants, but they left as leaders. They came seeking knowledge, but they left equipped to inspire others. They came as learners, and they left as champions for justice, dignity, equality, and protection.
This initiative was successfully implemented under the Stronger Together Project in partnership with action medeor e.V., reaffirming our shared commitment to empowering women, protecting rights, and building stronger, more resilient communities.
